What is KYC, and what documents do I need?

KYC (Know Your Client) is a one-time identity check required by SEBI. Once you are registered with a KYC Registration Agency (KRA), it works across mutual funds, brokers and depositories. Keep these ready:

  • PAN (it must be operative, that is, linked with Aadhaar where required)

  • Address proof: Aadhaar, passport, driving license or voter ID

  • Bank proof: a cancelled cheque or a recent bank statement

  • Passport-size photograph and signature

  • Your mobile number and email ID

  • Income proof, if you want to trade in derivatives

  • NRIs also need a passport, visa or OCI details, overseas address and tax-residency details (FATCA/CRS). Start online through 'New KYC' on our website, or ask your relationship manager.
